The first is wrong but it can be spoken. When you write it down though, you need to break it into two sentences and add a question mark: "I don't know. Where is the car?"

Il tuo esempio è una domanda indiretta. L'inglese ha una struttura abbastanza fissa per quanto riguarda la sintassi; cioè, la frase dovrebbe seguire la formula Soggetto-Verbo-Oggetto (SVO), tranne quando si fa una domanda, in quel caso si fa Ausiliare-Soggetto-Verbo principale (ASV). Per questo, la tua prima frase è incorretta perché il soggetto (the car) non può andare dopo il verbo (is) in un'affermazione, anche se c'è la particella interrogativa (per ciò si chiama "domanda indiretta). Questo errore è molto comune tra gli italiani e gli spagnoli perché noi possiamo cambiare l'organizzazzione senza problemi. In inglese però, la seconda frase è la corretta.

I am not an expert at English despite what my United States flag says, but I hear the second one more often. To me, both are correct, but I would use the second option.
