Howdy Steve. There is no formal/official way to set up an unpaid/casual language exchange via italki. Setting up lessons or booking classes is for buying lessons with teachers and tutors. People do however use these message board to seek language parters though. “I can help with English in exchange for helping me with Japanese” sort of thing. The parties would then have to arrange the time and means of meeting between themselves.
