How do I know when to use 需要， instead of 要？。 Duolingo has this phrase “I need to do many things “ which I wrote as “需要” but they used ”要”. Thanks in advance.

If you 要做一件事情, y’ll / are gonna do that thing, you have already made the decision.

If you 需要做一件事情，it means you need to do that thing.
