Is this what "pitch" is referring to in the picture?: to talk about or describe (something) in a favorable way so that people will want to buy it, accept it, etc.

That's right. This use of "pitch" (but not the word itself) comes from baseball. Baseball is a game where the pitcher pitches the ball to the batter. Figuratively, he offers the ball to the batter and the batter has the option to swing or not. A "pitch" is a verbal presentation to someone trying to present a case. A "sales pitch" is a sales talk, an attempt to persuade you to buy. You can use "play" in the same way. A synonym for this use of "pitch" is "spiel", a German word that is used also in English and also means "play". A "sales pitch" is the same as a "sales play" or a "sales spiel" (pronounced "shpeel").
