i give up:
"do you like white wine?"
why does it translate (in argentine / spanish) to:
¿Te GUSTA el vino blanco?
not: GUSTAS
"you" (the object of my sentence) is 2nd person - no?
--> I run into this 2nd person / 3rd person ... all of the time
-->(maybe if i were more versed, i'd get it as a 'the-way-it-is' thing; but i'm not and it frustrates me GREATLY

Don't get frustrated. The verb 'gustar' serves as a model verb of many that function similarly (interesar, parecercer, sorprender, doler...) . So you need to learn them to express many things in Spanish.
Gustar matches the thing we are talking about and not the person whose likes we are expressing. A mí me gusta la pizza. A mí me gustan las hambuerguesas.

Yo gusto = I am pleasant
Tú gustas = You are pleasant
Él/ Ella GUSTA = He/She is pleasant
Since nouns in spanish are masculine and feminine. El vino blanco would be like 'he'
El vino blanco gusta = white wine is pleasant
El vino blanco te gusta = white wine is pleasant for you.

I have sent you some audios with full explanation. But briefly:
me gusta means "i like it" or "this it's pleasing to me".
That's why is always gusta and not gusto gustas or gustamos.
Me gusto will be "i like myself or im pleasing to myself".
Me gustas means "i like you" or "you're pleasing to me"
Me gustamos doesn't exist since it will be " us like me".. or "we are pleasing to me" And it doesn't make any sense.
