“ get sideswiped” Is a common expression ? What does it mean exactly? Is it the same meaning as get sidetracked?

Howdy Dimin. “Sideswiped” a a decently common expression. It means to get hit suddenly from the side. You especially hear his used in the context of traffic collisions. It may also be used metaphorically to mean a sudden, unexpected critique. In contrast, to get “sidetracked” means to get distracted from one’s main purpose with smaller matters. Here are some examples: “I was sideswiped when trying to merge onto the freeway.” “I meant to finish the big project today, but I kept getting sidetracked.”
