It should be " having the life sucked out of you".
If you can imagine someone removing your joy, enthusiasm, and everything good from you, that is what it means. It could be a difficult job, a disappointment, another person who exhausts you. It is difficult to explain unless the similar expression exists in your language.

It should be "It was like having the life sucked out of you"
This means that you went through a negative experience that drained you in some way (emotionally, physically or otherwise) . It could apply to a lot of situations.
ex. She wouldn't stop yelling at me--it was like having the life sucked out of you.
ex. That job was exhausting; it sucked the life out of me.
I hope this helps!
