Swahili is one of the languages spoken in Eastern Africa. It is widely used in Kenya and Tanzania. If you are planning to travel in one of these regions as a tourist or for business, then it won't hurt to familiarise yourself with the language. For instance, a greeting like 'hello' can be replaced with 'Jambo'. However there are variations of the language in different countries. In Kenya for example, 'hello' can be said in different ways. Some of them include, "Mambo, Sasa, Niaje, Jambo.....' and the list goes on. In Tanzania, their version of Swahili is slightly different from Kenya. 'Hello' is said "Hujambo, shikamoo, habari...." These variations all mean the same thing and they have no big difference. It's just the same way in the English language you can greet a person like "Hello, Hi, Holla, Hallo...." It's time to learn Swahili and get to explore East African culture.
