Hello! I’m from a small town in northern coastal area of Central Java, Indonesia. But, I’ve been studying in university at Surakarta/Solo for almost 4 years. Surakarta is 2 hours away from Yogyakarta. As Yogyakarta, Surakarta also has palace named Surakarta Hadiningrat Sunanate.
Have you heard about Yogyakarta? It’s one of popular tourism town in Indonesia. There are many places to visit, such as Malioboro street, Taman Sari, Yogyakarta Palace, and etc. If you are nature lovers, you also can go to Pindul Cave, beaches (most visited beach is Parangtritis, but you can explore and find hidden beaches if you want quiet place).
Both Surakarta and Yogyakarta basically have same culture, which is Javanese (but Javanese also has varian culture depends on the region). Javanese people are known that they speak softly and politely.
Do you know about Javanese languange? It’s one of traditional language in Indonesia. If you know about Korean, Javanese is almost the same. Javanese has 3 kind of language (picture below for example, source: https://medium.com/@oswin.rh/decrypting-javanese-34b0db861f42).
1. Low (Ngoko) used between friends and close relatives. (Informal)
2. Middle (Krama madya), it’s between krama inggil and ngoko, more polite than ngoko. (Between formal and informal)
3. High (Krama Inggil), the most polite and formal style, used as respect from lower status of person to higher status of person. For example younger person to older person.
Beside that, Javanese has also their own alphabet called Aksara Jawa (picture below, source: https://www.google.co.id/amp/s/nandonurhadi.wordpress.com/2015/06/28/filsafat-di-balik-aksara-hanacaraka/amp/).
If you are interested on learning Javanese or Indonesian, I’ll happily help you :)
Have a nice day!
