Prohibit is a definitive action of an authority stopping the practice of something. Prohibition is an act of forbidding. It means that you tell someone to stop and you expect them not to continue at all. Inhibit on the other hand means the action of suppression, not complete elimination. Let's say, if the life in Earth was prohibited, then nothing living would exist, not even the smallest forms like bacteria. On the other hand, if the life on Earth was inhibited, you'd still see some cockroaches around.

Prohibit expresses, walking without protection in this coronavirus situation is prohibited. Inhibit expresses, suppose you're doing something wrong and someone is stopping you to do this. You can say this is inhibit.
