Hi
I am aware that the Spanish verb quedarse has many meanings including "to stay or remain".
In the following sentences does the verb quedarse mean literally "remain on/along the road/path", in the sense that some of the dreams were not completed
"Me complace decir que muchos de esos sueños se hicieron realidad. Pero, como siempre en la vida, algunos se quedaron por el camino"

Hi, Richard.
In this context, the verb quedarse in se quedaron por el camino is used figuratively. Here, "quedarse por el camino" means that some of those dreams were not fulfilled or were abandoned along the way, as if they got "left behind on the path" rather than reaching the goal.
So, you're right in interpreting that these dreams were not completed or were set aside on the journey of life.
