Hi!

l am Japanese and I recommend Japanese picture books for children, Manga, comic books, anime.

the above things are written in natural and easy Japanese.

so l think it easy to learn!

i like the animation of mr. Hayao Miyazaki, a famouse Japanese anime criater.

as the another way to learn japanese, you could watch famous movies in japanese

Subtitle.

im learning english and sometimes I watch desney movies in English, which i already know the outline of story :)

Alot of people use "Genki", I did not because I took beginner Japanese in college. I self-study now, but a lot of people seem to like japanesepod 101, on youtube. I worked on my listening skills by switching most of my entertainment over to Japanese. However, I've watched anime and listen to various Japanese music artists since I was 14. Now, I watch dramas, kids shows, anime, vlogs, cooking channels....I mean almost EVERYTHING in Japanese. I even watch my daughter's movies in Japanese (Big Hero 6 is my favorite, lol). The point being, as a beginner listening comprehension is important even though you won't really know what they are saying, but that is fine. Learning a bunch of rules and grammar, with no context to help you remember and learn is pointless. When you learn something new, and hear it being used it will help a lot.

For example, when a native is speaking to me...I usually don't understand because I just don't know the words they are using. I can hear words very well, so if I need to look up a word, or ask them to define a word...I can without having to ask them to slow down. That's been the biggest help to me.

There are a few people in Kharagpur who also have passed the JLPT.

Thanks for telling me of KAC and NHK world's series. Will come to use really soon.

I see you live in Kharagpur.
You can try to attend Kolkata Anime Club (KAC) meets. I think there are a few who can speak Japanese there. Some even passed JLPT.

As for me, I downloaded NHK World's Japanese Lessons.

Thanks Brittany!

I do watch quite a lot of anime(a lot) and it kind of helps. Though you get to know few of the common words and phrases, apart from it being a supplement, it didn't help me much.

This is where genki and Japanesepod101 will help me out.

Thank you very much for your help.
