Roberta, the most likely reason is that you're using an old version of Skype. Go here:

and get the latest version.

haha I'm sorry if i could not explain the problem. When i enter my Skype ID and password but can not connect .. runs for two minutes and then says " Skype can not connect". Sorry for my poor english!! >.<
