I am a Brazilian librarian and I would like to improve my English because I am going to take an institutional exchange at the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus).

I live in Massachusetts, and perhaps you can see from a map that Connecticut and Massachusetts are neighbors--and that both of them are very small states, and the climate is about the same.
Fall in New England is a lovely season with mild temperatures. It's a good time to be outdoors, talk walks, and ride bicycles. Storrs is about forty miles from the coast, so you shouldn't need to worry much about coastal flooding or hurricanes.
The weather is unpredictable, though.
Storrs is near the big city of Hartford, and you can look up weather and climate data for Hartford and it will be close enough.

I think you can see that the average high is 23 °C, the average low is 10 °C. You will probably want some short-sleeved shirts and shorts in case you get a hot day, you will probably want a light jacket for cool evenings, and you will definitely want to be prepared for rain. I don't know Storrs but it's a college town and there are bound to be all kinds of good places to buy clothing. When you get their ask your U.S. colleagues to suggest places.

The people I know who've been to U Conn liked it a lot.
I don't know whether you will have time to do "tourist stuff," but if you do, and if you happen to have read and and love the work of U.S. author Mark Twain, then you might enjoy visiting the Mark Twain House in Hartford. I've visited it twice and enjoyed it both times. Mark Twain (1835-1910) was the author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Life on the Mississippi. He was a brilliant humorist, satirist, and iconoclast, and his conversational writing style was a big influence on American writing.
Maybe on weekends I will have time to be turist!
