Hi Blanca,

Thanks for a super interesting article. A propos, I was just wondering if it were possible to translate the following sentence into English using the present perfect?

Eso no es nuevo, yo lo sabía desde hace tiempo

So instead of saying : That is not new, I knew that a while back/ago  - Would it be possible to say "That is not new, I have known that for a while now"?

My Spanish is not very good but I am an English teacher and I have Spanish speaking students sometimes so I was just curious to know what you think about this.

 Thank-you

Paisley

Muchisímas gracias por el artículo, Blanca. Y me doy cuenta que estudiabas a la Universidad de Salamanca! Yo también. Salmantino, borracho y fino! En mi caso, desafortunadamente, muy borracho y no muy fino! A mí me encanta esa ciudad genial. Creo que es una de las sitios más bonitos del mundo.

Mucha suerte en Escocia y....

Saludos de los EE.UU!

Great article, thank you!

I find it interesting that many expressions in Spanish cannot directly be translated into English, into German however they can. For example desde cero would translate to "from zero" which makes no sense (although we all know the expression from zero to hero). In German it would translate to "von null" which is actually a thing you'd say (von null anfangen).

Gracias por escribir un articulo muy util para todos. Estas frases cortas son las que usamos de menudo durante nuestras conversaciones.  A partir de ahora tratare de incluirlas cuando nos vemos.
