How frustration can make us more creative

I watched this Ted talk today: http://www.ted.com/talks/tim_harford_how_messy_problems_can_inspire_creativity

I found it very inspiring. The author is concentrating on creativity, but I think the result of leaving your comfort zone, of overcoming difficulties is much broader.  What do you think?

@Marina

Thank you Marina, but I intended President Obama's phrase, "Yes, we can." Mr. Obama will leave but his phrase will survive!

Thank you for participation!

@Susan

Thank you! I'm listening to it right now) It's great.

@Lou

I think there are two great outcomes - the toughening (not sure of the term, could be one more of my inventions))) of one's character and positive attitude towards life in general. I'm sure if one is ready to overcome the obsticles one is definetely will succeed. The success lead to readyness to deal with another problem, one is impoving with each resolved situation and more positive towards each new stumbling block. At least that's how it works with me, as I'm not natural optimist)))

@Nilton

You are too hard with yourself! Your great discussions speak for you)

Interesting video.

I was curious about the music from the concert he referred to.  There is a video on youtube.com with the concert music:

That talk was very captivating, thanks for sharing! I found the oblique strategies of the rock music example especially interesting - and how it seems that, the greater the mess we make for ourselves, the more creative solutions we come up with. I definitely think it could lead to other benefits aside from creativity. Obviously also in terms of study performance, as Tim exemplified, and I've found this to be true for language learning in general: when we learn by unconventional "messy" methods, we learn faster and retain our knowledge better (at least in my case). That's how italki works too, I suppose, and that's why we're all here, right? What other results were you thinking that messy problems could lead to?

Hi Marina, I've just watched the video and I found it very interesting. I've been through situations like that before. It really happens as described byTim Harford. When I feel frustrated because of a bad result, I do try using my creativity in order to overcome failures. But that's not enough; I just wish I were much more creative.
