If you had seen two movies last night, then you could say, "I wish I had known that the films were garbage before I went to the cinema last night.""

However, if you only saw one movie, then you will need to use the verb "was":  'I wish I had known that the film was garbage before I went to the cinema last night.'

"I wish I had known that the film was garbage before I went to the cinema last night" sounds more correct.
