What is the difference between[coat] and [overcoat]? I look for pictures online by texting the two words,according to the pictures appears ,it seems that overcoat is for men,coat is for women,is it right?

A coat or jacket can be worn by a man or woman.

an overcoat is worm by men over their suits

That is a good question, Shenjja. Here on the west coast of the U.S., I have never heard the word “overcoat” used. We usually say “coat” or “jacket” for men. I think the term “overcoat” might be used more in the eastern part of the U.S.
