Enseignant professionnelWhat is your motivation in learning a new language?
People have different reasons for learning. I call it " motivation". Having motivation or purpose is very important. Why?
It will determine how much time and effort you will put in learning a new language. For example, a student studying for a formal test like the IELTS will probably spend more time learning that someone who learns because of leisure.
I for one started learning English at 6 years old because I know that English is important. But as the years go by, my motivation is clearer and it also changes.
What about you .. What is your motivation in learning a language?
Is it for travel?
Is it for work?
Is it for immigration purposes?
Or you might have a dream of becoming a polyglot?

I'm learning languages mainly because I want to read books n their original languages. Unfortunately, a lot of the original text gets lost in the translation.
Also I'm learning languages for travel and a little bit for work. :)

Sometimes I study languages because I want to travel to a country. Or I start learning languages because I met a speaker of that language and want to know more about their language and culture. And I learn languages in general just for fun.

I learned English because, just like you, I knew it was really important and I was tired of only watching movies in French so I started learning at the age of 11. Right now I have a good level in English but it's never enough so I'm still learning.
I also started learning Japanese recently, I don't know why though , but it's just perfect as a fifth language I would speak.
