Brian, I don't think it should surprise you that this topic comes up every so often. One of the curious features about this situation is that, although there are a number of highly proficient non-native English speakers on the site, they tend to be reticent about making corrections, citing their lack of familiarity with the nuances of English usage.
On the other hand, learners with a much lower level of English show no such inhibition and, to confuse matters further, people on the site who claim to be native speakers but evidently are not, also throw in their often inadequate contributions. Some of these people even teach English on this site.
If you come across an unsatisfactory correction I suggest you downvote it ; this should indicate to the poster that a concern has been raised by an independent observer. Beyond this, there is not a lot to be done, short of writing your own correction to every deserving notebook entry.
