How many close friends can you realistically have? Why?

We often lead very busy lives and we need to balance work, studies and having a healthy social life. I read in an article that an average person usually have at least 4-5 close friends.

Of course the number varies depending on several factors such as personality and preferences. I prefer to have at least 3-4 close friends but I am someone who likes to meet new people and acquaintances to explore new ideas and hobbies. A small group is something that I can manage because I have a very busy schedule. I enjoy though meeting new people through sports and hiking groups, people who share similar interests and hobbies.

I have met and joined a lot of sports teams and I noticed that even if there is a team of 20 people for example. The team is still divided into sub-groups of people that you can relate to the most.

I’d like to add what Mac Carron said.

"Most people have a very small number of close friends, but this number varies from person to person," he told HuffPost. The range could fluctuate between one and 15 people, but the average is about four to five.

I only have 3 close friends, because we meet usually and have a lot in common.

Okay. So in my opinion, the realistic number of close friends are 4. I'm talking about a friendship group (like when we were in high school - high school squad????). Why 4? It's an even number. Usually, in a group we have one favorite friend. That's gonna make fair for 4 of us; 2 vs 2. We can be close with all the squad's member, but we can't be supeeeeerrrr close with all of them. Like sharing secret/problems, asking about suggestions etc.

@ᑎᗩDᗩ Dᗩwood Only time can tell who remains I guess as we have several chapters in our life and usually only a few close ones remain. Four is a good number I guess.
