What would you pay for, in terms of online language learning resources?
Hello everyone,

speaking generally of online language learning resources, what kind of them do you (or would you) pay for, if any? I'm always been the free-type of learner and I can safely assume I'm not alone on that, but does it makes sense? I'm sure that spending some money in language learning is well worth the investment, considering how much do we spend in useless thing on a daily basis without even notice it.

What do you think about that? Do you also feel that we are more careful about how do we spend our money online with respect to what we do in our daily life? And why, if yes?

Hi Alberto!

I'm definitely a bit of a cheapskate too! I always try to avoid paying for things in pretty much every area of my life. That has taught me some very valuable lessons though too.

If you really want to improve in a language, I honestly believe that having a tutor is the best thing you can possibly spend your money on. Thankfully iTalki is a wonderful resource that has many inexpensive options. Tutors help you structure your learning and help you know what to practice.

In terms of everything else, I only spend money on things that can also be useful outside of my language learning. Some examples are cookbooks and movies in the target language. Those are things that I might have normally purchased in English and only add to my interest in learning that target language.

If anything I would take Chinese courses online and be able to pay for them since it would be cheaper than college, but I’m more of a free learner myself. If it came to it, at the right price, and the right teacher I suppose I would do frequent lessons with them.
I feel as though we’re more likely to spend money in person because we know where it’s going, online it’s harder because you’re giving your hard earned money to someone who may be a scam.
