Enseignant professionnel***UPDATE*** HOW TO FIND YOUR PERFECT TEACHER ON ITALKI
Good evening, lovely people!
I posted the below discussion in order to help you to find your right teacher on this platform of many teachers.
After doing some research, I have come up with an even better way to find your perfect match:
Using the CATEGORY filters is fine, but it appears that an even better way is to NOT use the category filter, but to use a KEYWORD or keywords. "How do I do that?" I hear you ask. Well, it's as easy as this:
On the teacher search screen, after having selected the language you want to learn, then use the search filters (ideally: From | Teacher types | Native Speaker), but DO NOT USE THE 'CATEGORY' FILTERS.
Then, on the right hand side, you'll see a MAGNIFYING GLASS icon. Click on this, and then you will be able to type in a KEYWORD or keywords, for example, pronunciation, IELTS teacher, DELE. Then hit ENTER. It will then come up with a shorter even more narrowed down list of teachers who are true specialists related to that keyword. You can be sure that you will find your right teacher this way, and a lot quicker.
If anybody has any questions about this, feel free to drop me a comment.
I hope you all enjoy your time on italki!!!
Best regards,
Andrew B

Good morning, wonderful italki learners,
Currently, there are a LOT of teachers on italki, and when you search for a teacher, you are going to be served the same teachers at the top of the search results. Please don't despair and think: "Oh, I'm never going to find my perfect teacher." Trust me, they do exist!
Firstly, on the teacher search, make sure that you select as many filters as you can in order to narrow down the number of teachers displayed. PLEASE NOTE: with the CATEGORY filter, sub-categories are hidden underneath the GENERAL, BUSINESS and TEST PREPARATION options. So, by clicking on either one of those categories and then selecting a sub-category, you will have a better chance of finding your ideal teacher!
However, even if you select a specific sub-category, you will then still have to be patient and go through a few pages of teachers (remember, there are a lot of teachers on here) in order to find your perfect match. italki has a lot of wonderful and experienced teachers on pages 3, 4, 5 and below on the teacher search result pages that you might not have seen.
I hope you all enjoy your time on italki, and stay connected and disinfected!!!
With best wishes from sunny Spain,
Andrew B

@Tim
Maybe you should have tried it out before posting this. I just searched „legal English“ among the English teachers. You were the third profile appearing in the list. I checked a couple of other teachers‘ profiles. Most of them had a law degree. So, I’d say it works.

I know how hard it was for italki teachers/ tutors lately and for this reason I’m bumping this discussion.
I really hope that others bump it as well 🍀
🙃 Thank you, Andrew 🙂

It definitely works, Tim.
I had a pronunciation diagnostic request out of the blue yesterday. I'd not had one for weeks after having had them constantly. So, I quizzed the student as to how she found my profile. She confirmed that she had typed 'pronunciation' in the search field and said I was at the top of the pile. I was lucky that the student had done that, or she would never have found me.
I'll test yours out later after my lessons, Tim, as I did for Beth and her Phonics.

Thanks, but this doesn't really help students find me. One of the subjects I teach is Legal English. I suspect I'm one of the few teachers on italki who teaches this. If you search "Legal English" on italki, you don't find me (unless italki fixed this)! This, of course, makes absolutely no sense. I have a law degree and used to be a lawyer in the U.S. I've taught many Legal English courses on italki. I just finished my Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the American University of Armenia and my capstone involved designing a curriculum for a Legal English class. You'd think that I'd appear in the search results for "Legal English" teachers on italki, but I don't (again, unless italki fixed this). Oddly enough, most, if not all, of the teachers who do appear in the search results are teachers who do NOT teach Legal English. Go figure!
Anyhow, if you're looking for a Legal English teacher (or Business English, IELTS, TOEFL, Conversational English, General English teacher), this is my italki profile: https://www.italki.com/teacher/1377283?ref=1377283x
