Even on internet there are some articles about how to get over that situation. But there isn't any explanation about why you shouldn't do it. is that all these relationships are doomed to fail??
Cauz a good friend is better than a lover :)). Just my opinion
Personally I think it's okay. I even think in some occasions, a feeling between two good friends, can be more real and stable, not only a superficial emotion, because freinds know eachother better.
But it has problesms too, I'm agree with Breze about unrequited love.
If this is a woman who is worried that getting physical with a male friend will put the friendship at risk, you should bear in mind that's the ultimate goal of most hetero men anyway.

The articles I encountered usually deal with the love being unrequited, that might be one of the problems.
