Hi=) What's the difference?)

Hi! I'm am from Russia.  I am trying  to learn English.  It's so difficult.  languadge(((Can you please explain to me, what's is the difference between "my friends" and "friends of mine".=)

First of all, I treat all essays as more formal than comments or email.  Hence I corrected it as such.

The meaning of the two terms are the SAME. "My friends" is a simple direct sentence.  "Friends of mine" is a bit more long winded.  The longer form, sounds warmer and more friendly.  This is usually the case when compared to short, terse forms.  This especially so in writing because body language and the tones of how it was said are lacking.

"My cat is annoying me".  Just a simple statement and the emotion conveyed is in the word "annoying" which has a bad connotation.

"This cat of mine is annoying me."

Now there's warmth attached to the sentence.  It means that although the cat is a annoyance, you still love it and that the annoyance is really something you wanted.

Hi =) what's the difference? :)

Hi! I'm from Russia. I'm trying to learn English. It's such a difficult languadge :((( Please explain to me the difference between "my friends" and "friends of mine" :)

my friends = мои друзья

friends of mine = некоторые из моих друзей (не все)

несколько примеров:  My friends all called me for my birthday. Some friends of mine are going to throw me a birthday party. I hope all my friends come. I visited some friends of mine in New York. Ann and Charles are friends of mine that live in Washington. I'd like you to meet some friends of mine.

In English "my friends" is strongly preferred to "friends of mine" We usually use possessives when talking about concrete things (my friends, his drink, Peter's job, Jane's dress). We usually use the "of" construction when we talk about more abstract things (the cost of living, peace of mine, the joy of cooking)
