Most of the time I really enjoy italki. Here are many nice people who want to learn languages. I love to participate in their learning progress, answering their German related questions, helping them to understand my native language.
The majority of the people on italki probably think the same way as I do. I'm thankful whenever someone is kind enough to correct my entries. I am also happy when someone is politely asking me (after having read my profile) if we could be language(!) partners (Standard British English/French/Dutch - German). In this way learning languages is a lot of fun.
But some people seem to misunderstand italki as a dating platform. They offensively obtrude themselves upon you and don't accept a "no"(for an answer). No matter how often you explain that you are NOT looking for friends. That you do NOT want to talk to strangers via skype.
Most of the time I delete that kind of messages and block their "creators" at once.
Strangely enough, it is noticable that those messages usually come from ... let's call them "southern people" even if they don't necessarily live in the south. While I can't complain about the women, some men don't seem to truly follow their religious values even though they invoke lauds on their God in their profiles.
I mean there are idiots in every society. But why are 99% of the idiots who feel a need to obtrude themselves upon me followers of a particular religion?
How can I stay open-minded if a common prejudice proves itself again and again? and again?
I would just like to agree with you totally. This happens a lot, and I don't like it at all. I always get strangers which are mostly Indian people, writing such things. Of course, I block them in first minute they send that message. :)
I was searching for German speakers and I came across your entry; which I corrected because no natives had taken a look at it. I was pretty nit-picky since your English is excellent and you need harsh graders to improve. :)
Sorry about your bad experiences with "Southern" people on italki, though I don't really know what that is exactly referring to. One one hand, it is obviously very good to be open-minded. On the other hand, you can't talk to everybody and *some* stereotypes have to be used in certain instances. For instance, if you are approached by a stranger at 2AM in a dark street of a very poor neighborhood, it is smart to assume that the stranger may be dangerous since crime tends to be higher in poor areas and it is late. And some things are logical. If I were to select a random German man or if I were to pick a Chinese man picked at random, obbs are that the German man is taller than the Chinese man. There are exceptions, but a betting person would bet on one outcome over another.

I haven't heard it in English, though it may exist!) on their God in their profiles.

Most of the time I delete such that kind of messages and block their "creators" at once. ('that kind of ...s ... their' is just awkward so I recommend changing to simpler 'such')
Strangely enough, it is noticeable that those messages usually come from ... let's call them "southern people" even if they don't necessarily live in the south.(cannot imagine who 'Southern people' might be!) While I can't complain about the women, some men don't seem to truly follow their religious values even though they invoke lauds on heap praise on/lavish praise on/sing the praises of/laud/invoke their god ('invoke on' is wrong) - in their profiles.
I mean there are idiots in every society. But why are 99% of the idiots who feel a need to obtrude themselves upon me followers of a particular religion? Most religions indulge in self promotion - they almost all evangelise
