English word is used in brazil with different mean - Gringo Some americans feel ungry when some brazilian calls them Gringo. But this word have different mean here. In Brazil gringo is foreigner . don't mind where you from (It's a slang). A brazilian that made interchage in Mexico told me , the word Gringo was used by mexicans when americans conquested the mexican land (region of California,Texas) . Mexican people said "Gringo!! Gringo !! (Green go!!!) to sent off the american soldies from the villages , soldiers used green clothes. Sometimes this term is use to insult a american. I believe this term "gringo" arrived in Brazil because the western films . We associate this word with foreigner. You are American and ear it here ,Don' t feel ungry!! Thank you. When I visit Brazil, I will remember this. It is good to know that it is not an insult in Brazil. In California, it depends on the intention of the speaker, whether it is an insult or not.
