IELTS Writing 1 The bar chart below demonstrates the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad from 1985 to 1995 and the second chart shows Australia's share of the Japanese tourist market. According to the bar chart, the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad was on a upward trend in the period. Starting from 5 million in 1985, the number reached its peak in 1990, amounting to 11 million between 1985 to 1990. Then it dropped slightly in 1991 and increased to 15 million in 1995, up by 10 million compared to that in 1985 Of all the Japanese tourists travelling abroad, 2%(100,000) chose Australia as a destination in 1985 and the number rose to around 5%(nearly 450,000) in 1988, before a drop to around 4%(nearly 400,000) in 1989. The number of Japanese tourists to Australia regained its upward trend and increased all the way up to 6% and above after 1993. From the charts we can see more and more Japanese tourists chose to travel abroad from 1985 to 1995 and the percentage going to Australia also increased despite the fluctuation in the late 80s.
