Alcázar of Segovia Castles are my favourite buildings. They are large strong buildings, built in the past by a ruler or important person to protect the people inside from attack. They were both a home and a fortress. Castles were often built on hilltops or surrounded by water to make them easier to defend. The first castles appeared in France in the 10th century and in England during the 11th century. One of the castles that I like most is the Alcázar of Segovia. It’s a medieval stone fortification located in the city of Segovia. This castle is situated on a cliff, located at the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, near the Guadarrama Mountain. The Alcázar was originally built in the 12th century by King Alfonso VIII on an old fortress site. In the 13th century the building took on an air of Gothic elegance. Now, it has different styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance. It was built as a fortress and later it was used as royal palace, Royal Artillery College, state prison and military academy. This stunning castle was one of the inspirations for Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle.

Alcázar of Segovia

Castles are my favourite buildings. They are large, (una coma para separar dos adjectivos) strong buildings, built in the past by a ruler or important person to protect the people inside from attack. They were both a homes and a fortresses (castles --> homes, etc) Castles were often built on hilltops or in areas surrounded (de lo contrario, suena como si los constructores trajeran el agua) by water to make them easier to defend. The first castles appeared in France in the 10th century and in England during the 11th century.

The Alcázar was originally built in the 12th century by King Alfonso VIII on an old fortress site. In the 13th century the building reflected the peak of Gothic elegance (no decimos "the air of" tanto). Now, it has different styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance. It was built as a fortress and later it was used as a royal palace, Royal Artillery College, state prison and military academy.
This stunning castle was one of the inspirations for Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle.

One of my friends in France who used to own a castle from his forefather. He decided to donate it to government because he couldn't afford the tax for keeping it. Too bad...
