Can someone give me the meaning of those sentences?
" He came to a group standing round a door"
--> WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS VERB? : STANDING ROUND. I need to know what does "round" mean ?
I think what you mean is "standing around." The term "standing around" or "stand around" is an idiom which means something like:
- to stand idly near a location
- to wait around or loiter
- to stay in one place doing little or nothing
Example: A group of office workers are standing in a hall, chatting about TV show or whatever. The boss walks up to the group and says: "Why are you people just standing around? Get back to work!"
A similar expression that is fairly common: "Don't just stand there. Do something!"
