Ridiculous Chinese Wedding Culture (2) As in my last article I brought with wedding culture of Shanxi province, this time I would like to introduce wedding culture of Heilongjiang province. Unlike “selling daughter" wedding culture in Shanxi, parents of the couple who is about to get married would give a certain amount of money to the couple as a form of congratulations and blessings. And there are also some interesting parts on the very wedding day. When groom reach bride's house, he has to find out certain items such as a shoe, an earing etc. which are hidden by bride's families (usually kids) as to get permission for taking her away. After the groom finding them out successfully, another challenge would come continuously. He has to pick up his beloved bride letting her feet off the ground, and take her from her room to the wedding car. If bride's feet touch the ground in this period, that would mean bad luck for their marriage, so that's why most of Chinese girls would try very hard to lose weight and boys would make efforts to strengthen their muscles when the weddings are coming. Some naughty friends would even set a body wall like we see in the football games on their route to give the couple trouble. Stopping here everything seems wonderful and interesting, but in fact the part before wedding is not that impressed. In Heilongjiang province as well as in many other areas in China wedding is not a thing purely between couples, it's also between families of both sides, sometimes even between clans which means every member in their clans might interrupte in their decision on choosing whom to be their wedding partner. All the judgement goes like " he is not rich enough to marry you " or "she is too short to give your future baby a tall gene" buzz around couples before they get married. And many couples break up under the pressure coming from their clans. Many true loves died on the way to marriage, what a ridiculous wedding culture of China!
