Should we give children pocket money Writing Task 2 (an essay) Some people say that giving a smaller amount of money weekly to children will help them become more capable as they grow older. Do you agree or disagree? It has been suggested that children should be given some pocket money on a weekly basis. Most parents have become more willing to do this. I believe this is a good idea as this will help the next generation become more capable while they growing up. For an adult, how to manage money is an important life skill in this commercialized society. They need to understand how to spend money more efficiently, when and where to invest to get maximized payoff, and how to save money to avoid not-very-rare bankruptcy. Those skills involved have to and can be acquired from practice; if young children have some small amount of money, they will be able to gain those related skills easily. In addition, children need some money for socializing; involvement in social activities will make them more independent. For example, they may have a desire for throwing a party on their birthdays or other important occasions, or they might need to buy and give a present to their friends these parties. If they have some disposable money, they will independently think of such questions like how to make their important days more memorable, who they should invite to attend those entertainment activities and even how to handle interpersonal relationships through those occasions. When I was a little boy, my parents were too stingy to give me any pocket money; therefore, it seems to me that because of that I missed some opportunities to better understand how to manage money. If I were a parent of a teenage boy or girl, I would not make the same mistake as my parent did in the past.
