Hi everyone!

I have been thinking about the word "preconception" alot lately. I know this means beliefs formed before sufficient information is obtained but when it is used in a phrase such as "preconception and pregnancy care", what does it mean exactly?

Well, preconception has two meanings actually. One is as you stated the other is "Before Conceiving a baby". Preconception in this context means before having a baby. Most parents to be have to go through a series of "Preconception medical checkups" before having a baby. So it does not mean, as the other answerer here said, being prejudices or misconceptions about pregnancy.

Does the word 'preconception' have other meanings?

Hi everyone!

I'm just wondering what other meanings 'preconception' has. I know it means to form an opinion about something before you get enough information about it. But when this word is used in "preconception and pregnancy care", what exactly does it mean?

Thanks :)

Well, I guess here it refers to some prejudices and false ideas a person may have about pregnancy.

Hi, are you saying "precontraception" which seems mean something before contraception (keep away from pregnancy)? Otherwise you may offer the whole context for us to interpret for you.

I'd never before heard of this word 'preconception' in the second sense of your article. From the context, I would have written it rather 'pre-conception' = before conception, so as not to confuse it with the established word 'preconception' = a belief without evidence.
