Whereas and while are the same when expressing contrasts or differences, whereas they are not the same when expressing time.
Stacy likes pie whereas/while I like cake.
I ate my cake while Stacy ate her pie.

While and whereas have the same meaning when expressing contrast between two things. Example would be - 'Some married couples argue all time, whereas( while) others never do.'
Here you can use both while and whereas.
They differ in meaning when we refer to time or some type of duration in a sentence. For this you would only use while. For example: "While I was studying, she was watching movies."
Here, you wouldn't be able to use whereas.

Whereas is used when while can be misunderstood. They have the same meaning a lot of the time, but in some cases it can be difficult to discern whether while is used to show that two thing are happening at the same time or if it is used to show differences. In these tricky cases it is better to use whereas to show differences.
