Could you give me some examples where you use the phrase 'hard cheese'? It's an idiom by the way. Thank you so much!

"Hard cheese!!" = That's just your bad luck; there's nothing you can do about it/ there's nothing I am willing to do about it... (Probably a British idiom)...

It means bad luck! I arrived too late and missed my flight. Hard cheese!

Hi, If that is an idiom, we need more context. Context is all important in English. Within the dairy product category of food, there are hard and soft cheeses. Cream cheese is soft. Blue, cheddar, parmesan, and gouda are all examples of hard cheese. Message me back with more context for this idiom you are talking about. I've never heard it before. Cheers

So interesting! I have never heard that one. I thought of some American idioms that we use in the same way: 1. That's the way the cookie crumbles (bad luck, and you can't change it) 2. It is what it is (bad luck, and you can't change it) 3. Tough luck (bad luck, and you can't change it) 4. That's life! Thanks for sharing!

It's either a rare idiom, or not used in the U.S. I've never heard it.
