Oscar
Hello guys? 'I need to make changes to my life.' It's true. But leaving out my personal problems, is 'to' the only preposition that I can use with 'make changes.' Thank you so much :)

Hi Oscar, "to" my life" and "in" my life are your options. More importantly, however, I'm proud of you for being so insightful and humble about yourself and your life. That is a special quality that not all adults have. That's very admirable of you. <3 Nicky

I have seen that in many sentences various prepositions can be used, the meaning will change slightly or much with each preposition.

Hi Oscar, with this particular wording, the word "to" is part of the infinitive or base form of the verb to change; it is not a preposition in this case. Assuming that you make no changes to this phrase, then yes "to" is the only word you can use here. If you google "collocations & change" as Ed Business English suggested, you will find other ways of essentially saying the same thing. Hope we were able to help!

Hi Oscar.... the prepositions used with "change" can very depending on the phrase.... You can make changes "to" your life or also changes "in".. your life..... Look up (google) "collocations & change" for more examples. a few examples: for a ~ I usually take the bus to town, but today I cycled for a change. | ~ from, ~ in The last few years have seen a change in attitudes to single parents. | ~ of a change of government | ~ to the change from the old to the new system

I think I'd say "I need to make changes in my life", although "to my life" is also an option with a slightly different nuance. "make changes in my life" sounds like an internal adjustment. "make changes to my life" sounds like an external adjustment. But since it is "I" and "my life", it sounds like an internal situation, although sometimes we think of ourselves as being outside ourselves. 🤔 You could also say simply, "I need to change my life". That sounds like a more complete change than "make changes in my life". In any case, good luck with those changes, and your life!
