Textbooks love to teach "Jak się masz?" as the standard translation for "How are you?"
While it is grammatically correct, native speakers rarely use it in casual daily life. It sounds incredibly formal, almost outdated. If you use it with a peer, it feels stiff.
If you want to ask how someone is doing naturally, stick to these instead:
Co tam? (What's up? — very common, casual)
Co słychać? (How's it going? / What's the news?)
Jak leci? (How's it flying? / How are things moving?)
