Extreme wethers, deforestation and extinction of animal species, there are a number of global problems that humans have to work on in today's anthropogenic world. Some people think that the overpopulation is the source of all these issues, while others claim technological development is the main culprit. Although technologies have enabled us to change and destroy the nature, I support the former viewpoint because the enormous number of people, estimated to reach 10 billion by 2050, innevitably have been depleting Earth's resources and impacting the environment. The simple fact is that the Earth cannot sustain such a large number of humanbeings. Scientific studies have shown that today's people consume more than twice as many recources as this planet can reproduce. Normally, the nature prevents living organisms from getting out of control, but humans with advanced cognitive skills and technologies outpower the nature. In this sence, it is a the-head-and-tail-of-a-coin question whether population or technologies come first. However, the purpose of use and advance of technologies is to increase people's living standard and number, so the population seems like an issue to be addressed. Critics for technologies argue that people can reclaim a sustainable environment if they abandon the modern lifestyle. However, first of all, it sounds impossible to lower the living standard, and second of all, it seems more constructive to use technologies to counter the adverse effects of themselves. Engineers have been working on less harmful power plants. Scientists have been improving environmental conservation techniques. To summarise, the excessive population have caused problems. Technologies can be used to recover the loss humans have made, and interestingly, there is a global tendency that developed countries see declining population. It might prove that mankind is still under control of nature.

With extreme weather, deforestation and extinction of animal species, there are a number of global problems that humans have to work on in today's anthropogenic (I had to check this word! It relates to the study of the origins of man) world. Some people think that overpopulation is the source of all these issues, while others claim technological development is the main culprit. Although technology has enabled us to change and destroy nature, I support the former viewpoint because the enormous number of people, estimated to reach 10 billion by 2050, inevitably have been depleting Earth's resources and impacting the environment. The simple fact is that the Earth cannot sustain such a large number of human beings. Scientific studies have shown that today's people consume more than twice as many resources as this planet can produce. Normally, nature prevents living organisms from getting out of control, but humans with advanced cognitive skills and technologies can outpower nature. In this sense, it is a toss of the coin question as to whether population or technologies is the more important reason. However, the purpose of the use and advance of technology is to increase people's living standards, so population seems like the main issue to be addressed. Critics of technology argue that people can reclaim a sustainable environment if they abandon a modern lifestyle. However, first of all, it seems impossible to lower living standards, and secondly, it seems more constructive to use technology to counter its own adverse effects. Engineers have been working on less harmful power plants. Scientists have been improving environmental conservation techniques. To summarise, excessive population has caused problems. Different technologies can be used to recover the problems humans have made, and interestingly, there is a global tendency that developed countries are seeing declining populations. It might prove that mankind is still under the control of nature.
Good writing. Technology is generally considered as singular unless you are clearly talking about different types of technology.
