italki is a name of a website just like Russia is a name of country.

I think the basis is a word talk :) italk may states for international talks. Also word talkie = a movie with a soundtrack, as distinct from a silent film. So gaining it, we will obtain italki :D But it is just my opinion. Our company do not take any responsibility if any mistakes in translation will be revealed. :)
