请问American football是美式足球的意思，还是橄榄球的意思？

The American football season will begin this week, and I am excited. It is not rugby, although the shape of the ball is similar. It is not soccer. It is a unique game.

我觉得是橄榄球，美国的足球就是橄榄球，soccer才是跟中国一样的英式足球。这是我的理解哦。

橄榄球 is any game played with an olive-shaped ball. I think it usually refers to "rugby", but it might refer to American football, or even Australian rules.

真搞不懂他们。 明明最早英语已经指football是足球，还干嘛整出个soccer. 神马都要跟弄出个独立于英国的叫法吗。楼上正解。
