What is the hardest sound for you to pronounce in English? I've noticed Spanish speaking people have a hard time with the "v" and "b" sounds and the "t" and "d." Chinese people sometimes say, "Sank you" for "thank you."

The 'r' and 'l' sounds are difficult for some of the Chinese Enlgish learners to detect and pronounce. Although the 'r' and 'l' sounds are prevalent in the Chinese language, some people still have a hard time with the 'r' and 'l' sounds especially for those who speak dialects.

My Czech and Slovak students have problems with both "th" sounds... it turns out it's considered a speech defect in their languages, so they're worried about sounding silly. :) The English R's are generally difficult because they're so vaguely described in the teaching materials - I've counted about five different sounds between native English speakers, which are all written down as "R". My students try escaping back to their rolled R and struggle with words such as "regularly". The "ng" sound is difficult because it's not in their language either, so they they tend to read it as two separate letters. Also, their "v" is very soft, so it often comes out sounding like "w".

The sounds seem just a small problem, we can practice to improve the pronunciation. The hardest part is the ending-sounds. I think I can pronounce correctly any word with its transcription. But I find it difficult to read a whole sentence with linking-sounds smoothly. Like this simple sentence: "The wind is dead against us" Linking sounds: The wind_is dead_against_us I mean, I can pronounce it, but sometimes forget the connections by reading it out loud :) One more thing, I've been practicing the words like "lasts, guests", but it's more difficult than "tasks". Last: I like the way of an American says the "R" sound, it's interesting, but hard too!

Yes, actually, th-"θ" sound is not in Chinese language,so it's hard to speak this retroflexion. Besides, I think the dialect is also influences English pronunciation. As you know, Chinese have so many kinds of dialects.
