I believe this phenomenon is call a "bore". This is not the same as an uninteresting person. But you are speaking metaphorically. I guess in English, you would say, "Time marches on."

I'm amazed that you're so close to the inner meaning, Randy.
The second and more important implication of the saying is that the old generation will have to be replaced by the new one, irrevocably, with mixed emotions. Problem is I can't find the equivalent one in English. So I figure the better way is use explanation, rather than making do an idiom, if have to.
