I appreciate almost any style as long as the music is of good
artistic invention or inspiration (I purposely don't use the term 'production').
The definition of 'good quality' is very very hard, but luckily humans are capable of recognizing 'quality' in the artistic realm even if such definition lacks.
One of my favourite composers, singers and not-so-jolly storyteller is Nick Cave;
another surely is J.S. Bach, but we don't have his voice recorded;
Frederick Chopin and W.A. Mozart are also worth a try, as I imagine you know.
Same words for the works of Roger Waters, David Byrne, Brian Eno.
From my country (Italy) I would cite Franco Battiato, Lucio Battisti, Lucio Dalla, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Ivano Fossati, Enrico Ruggeri.
Goran Bregovic is also a great composer in my view.
As a peculiar singer singing with a very original band I like Peter Hammill (Van der Graaf Generator) very much.
An inspired German band is Faust.
Another inspired composer is Daevid Allen (Gong, Soft Machine),
please try to listen to Magdalene or Eat that Phonebook coda !
A giant is Bob Dylan.
Leonard Cohen has a big wealth of inspiration too.
=== thank you, I love music and songs' meaning ===
