How does one use dans/en/à? What are the rules? For example, I'm confused when I want to say I study French in school. Would I say J'étudie le français dans l'école? Thank you so much!

You can't translate that litterally unfortunalty. It's a bit a can of worm, but in a nutshell, you can say that: "dans" means "inside" in most cases. It means "in" or "within" when you talk about the time. You can say: dans 5 minutes (in/within 5 min), dans l'école (inside the school), etc. "en" means "in" for some things. You can say: en classe (in the classroom), en Europe (in Europe), en français (in French) "à" means "to" or "at". You can say: à l'école (at school), à Paris (it works with all towns' name, but not with country's name, for those you say "en" and "au"), etc. So you sentence would be: "J'étudie le français à l'école."

Ooh, yeah prepositions can be tricky even for atives. Some people say in the office, and others say at the office. In French, though, there are some specific expressions. En classe (in class), à lécole (at school), à + city, en/à + state or country (it depends on gender and ending (it's really not too complicated, though)), chez + person (at x's house (yes even your own (ex. chez moi))). En has many other uses, but not many with location. They're all sort of idiomatic. Caroline gave a great explanation of dans. à means "to" but you can't always translate literally, you know. Like I said, it's tricky. If you want, I have premade lessons just for prepositions. If not, I suggest just doing your best and listening to corrections and natives when they use them (or people who know them well; they don't necessarily have to be natives). Good luck!

Hello ! In principle, you use "dans" when you speak about the place, by example : - "Je suis dans la classe" : mean that I am physically in the classroom, - "Je suis en classe" : mean that I am in the moment in the classroom but this is theoretical The couple expression is perfectly correct ! "à" is your equivalent in english "to" and "at" and "in" for the biggest town "In London' In Lyon... I hope to be clear...
