Acculturate= to learn aspects of a culture other than one's own - particularly those aspects which will enable the individual to survive in that culture. Example: If you moved to another country, you would need a year to acculturate in that society.

"Acculturate" can be either transitive or intransitive. Used transitively: When an American moves to China, she might try to acculturate her child by teaching him to use chopsticks.
