It's difficult to exaggerate...
"It's difficult to exaggerate the importance of sleep."
Does it mean that sleep is so important that you are not exaggerating no matter how important you say it is?
Does "It's difficult to exaggerate" have almost the same meaning as "It's impossible to exaggerate"?
"It's difficult to exaggerate the importance of sleep."
Sleep is so important that you may not be able to exaggerate it. No matter how important you make it out to be it wouldn't be an exaggeration.
You were right in your last sentence.
I hope this helps
