What is the differences between the verbs "to study" and "to learn"?

This can be tricky but I'll try to keep it simple. Studying is an action that may or may not involve the person learning something. However, learning something does not involve studying. You can learn something without studying. For example, a baby does not study, but he/she learns as they grow. So basically.... When you learn, you find out about something you didn't know before. You study to either learn something new or to retain information that you already know. Examples of their use: To study - "You have to study all the topics we covered for the upcoming exam." - "While I was studying physics, I learnt something new." To learn - "I was learning about mammals in school today." - "I learnt something new about clouds today, when she was teaching." Hope this helps.
