What does "Thursday" mean?
I have read news on BBC: "Acquittals in Mukhtar Mai gang rape case" in Pakistan
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-13158001
And I wonder what "Thursday's ruling" ,in sentence "She runs a school for girls in her village, and has vowed that Thursday's ruling will not force her to leave her home.", means.
Moreover, how to translate this phrase "12 at the time" in sentence: Mukhtar Mai was attacked on the orders of the powerful Mastoi clan as a punishment because her brother - 12 at the time - had allegedly been having an affair with a Mastoi woman.
Hope to be answered soon. It's better to read English explanation.
Thank you so much!

Answer

"Thursday's ruling" - this is the phtase used in the report instead of writing in full "the decision of the Court on Thursday"
"12 at the time" - this is used in the report to make it clear that at the time of the incident being discussed in the article the brother was 12 years old at the time the attack on his sister took place.

I hope this helps.

Gillian:

"Thursday" is a day of the Week on the Western Calendar.
The sequence is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, THURSDAY, Friday, and Saturday.

Thursday comes from the name of a God in Norse (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) Mythology.

THOR was a powerful God, who used a hammer, and caused Lightning Bolts to strike earth from the "heaven". The Germanic peoples replaced the names of the Roman Gods with the names of their Gods. I think that's about it. --Warm Regards, Bruce
