Is this sentence grammatically correct? "I got you a little something."
I'm watching a season of The Vampire Diaries and there are some sentences which I need help to understand.
In a scene a couple are waiting to see a comet. They are kissing each other when the guy tells the girl "I.... got you a little something". Here's the transcript of their conversation;
Woman: Hey. Did you hear that?
Man: Hear what?
Woman: I heard thunder.
Man: There's no thunder.
Woman: Are you sure? Because if it rains, then we won't be able to see the comet.
Man: It's not gonna rain…… Listen, I...Got you a little something. It's back in the car.Don't you move?
Woman: mm-mm.Stay dry.It's not gonna rain.

Answer

"I got you a little something" is perfectly correct. The "little" part is not literal; it simply softens the phrase. "I got you something" can sound a little serious, but "I got you a little something" implies "no need to think too much about it, it's just a gift you might like".

It sounds as if he's about to propose, and is playing down the drama. ;)

"I got you something little" is literal.

In my view the sentence may mean that he bought something in a very little quantity to share up which is waiting in the car's back.
