Hello Faye: Sola Scriptura and Sola Natura are both Latin. SOLA SCRIPTURE is an essential doctrine in the Protestant doctrines of Christianity. It pertains to the demand that only the written wording of the Bible can be authoritative. It is a doctrine which conflicts with Catholic Doctrine. The difficulty derives from the fact that for nearly 300 years, the early church, which is to say, the Catholic Lineage followed writings such as the "Didache" and what is designated "The Old Testament" of the Holy Bible, and the traditions obtained from the earliest disciples of Christ. So for 300 years, prior to the Bible being conjoined into an "Old Testament" and a "New Testament" there were "traditions" followed by Christians which were accepted for practice and doctrine. After the Reformation in the 1500's however, when the Protestant split occurred, Martin Luther articulated the idea that only Scripture itself, could be authoritative for Doctrines. If an idea could not be found in the Bible, it was dismissed as a relevent foundation for doctrine. The Latin wording, Sola Scriptura means literally, ONLY SCRIPTURE. This is where Catholicism and Protestantism differ in their doctrines.
